Canada’s Department of National Defence expects to issue a request for proposal (RfP) for its emerging Integrated Soldier System Project (ISSP) competition. ISSP gear is similar to the US Army’s currently fielded Land Warrior in that it endeavours to push data to individual soldiers so they can achieve greater situational awareness. However, unlike Land Warrior, ISSP is to include variants for three different specialities: command, assault and support. Current plans envisage potentially fielding the equipment in three cycles from 2012-18, with an expected USD292 million budget.
